Your Measure K dollars are working at Center!

Having completed the critical roofing and heating/ventilation/air-conditioning (HVAC) projects last year, this summer the focus has been on upgrading the underground utilities, including plumbing, sewer, electrical and gas lines.  This will improve operations at Center and allow for the next steps in the modernization project.  In addition, a new HVAC unit is being installed to serve the multi-purpose room and kitchen area.

It’s a big job, and it’s taking a little longer than we hoped.  Our campus is still a construction zone.  So while work crews finish these important projects that will improve the safety and comfort of our students and staff for the long term, our immediate priority is to ensure the safety and comfort of everyone who comes to our school in the short term.

Brightly colored safety tape and temporary fencing will guide people away from hazardous work areas, and temporary restroom trailers
similar to this – not Porta-Potties! – have been installed until new sewer lines are connected and school restrooms open again.

Avid Corner

In the AVID elective, students have an opportunity to participate in tutorials twice a week. Essentially what happens is students bring in problems they have trouble with in their core classes, and present them to the “tutorial” group. This group consists of 5-6 students and a college tutor. The problem is written up on a “tutorial request form” requiring the student to access “prior knowledge” about the problem, beforehand. The group then helps the student to solve the problem by using inquiry to “lead” the student to the solution, with the guidance of the tutor. Students take notes throughout the tutorial. After the student is done, the next student goes up from the group, and so on. This activity acts as a wonderful support to the achievement levels of AVID students in their core, academic classes.
